Combining martial arts with football, Stephen Chow’s 2001 classic Shaolin Soccer remains one of the most absurdly entertaining hits in cinema history. A quarter-century later, the comedy maestro returns to the pitch with a familiar playbook in Kung Fu Soccer.
Rather than a direct sequel, the film delivers a fresh narrative using Chow’s iconic formula—live-action anime-style antics, physics-defying bullet kicks, inner-energy throws, and his signature slapstick humor. This time around, the story centers on an all-female squad, the Emei Team, as they battle formidable opponents in the prestigious Supreme Invincible Cup. The high-profile Asian cast includes Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba Dilmurat, and former EXO member Lay Zhang, along with special cameo appearances by Carina Lau and Japanese star Takeru Satoh.
