Following a two-year hiatus, East Java’s dream pop outfit Drizzly is back with their latest single, ‘how do i even try?’, released on July 29, 2026. The track serves as the opening gateway to their upcoming full-length album, things i couldn’t say out loud, slated for a 2027 release.
The emotional core of the song stems from drummer Cilo’s personal observations of friends stuck in situations they knew were doomed to end poorly.
“The inspiration came from watching friends stay in denial about circumstances that clearly had bad endings,” Cilo shared, adding that only after drafting the track did he realize he had once walked the exact same path.
Sonically, Drizzly maintains their trademark ethereal textures while leaning into dynamic shoegaze sensibilities. Originally starting out at a much slower tempo, the demo evolved into a richer arrangement powered by lush guitar riffs, melodic basslines, and layered synths, drawing inspiration from acts like The Milo, Polyester Embassy, Oeil, and Moon In June.
Selected as the lead single because it encapsulates the overarching narrative of their upcoming LP, band member Manda describes the song’s aesthetic mood as shades of black, white, and blue—a melancholic soundtrack crafted for late-night drives home, moments of solitude, or waves of nostalgia. ‘how do i even try?’ is now streaming across all major digital platforms.
